The history of Mount Calvary.

1925

Mount Calvary Lutheran School began as the flagship ministry of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, rooted in a shared mission to educate children in faith and truth. When the congregation built its first home in 1925, the church and school shared that space, laying the foundation for a ministry centered on faith, learning, and community.

The school officially opened with just nine students in a duplex near 53rd Street and Locust Avenue.

1927

By 1927, a dedicated school building with two classrooms was added to the church, an early sign of growth and commitment to Christian education. Over the decades, increasing enrollment prompted multiple expansions between 1948 and 2007, adding classrooms as well as a library, gym, kitchen, computer room, and science lab to support a well-rounded educational experience.

2021

In July 2021, Mount Calvary Lutheran School became the fourth school of WeTeachTruth Lutheran Education. In a letter to the congregation and staff, Pastor Dan Czaplewski wrote to the congregation and staff, “As we looked for ways to better serve our students and to provide more resources for our teachers in their ministry, it became clear that the best way to do this was to have Mount Calvary Lutheran School become a part of the WeTeachTruth Schools.”

TODAY

Today, Mount Calvary Lutheran School benefits from the shared services and support of WeTeachTruth, such as finance and marketing, while maintaining its own distinct culture, personality, and close-knit community feel. Mount Calvary Lutheran Church remains an independent congregation and continues to support the school through spiritual leadership and facilities management.

Now serving more than 200 students and their families, Mount Calvary Lutheran School remains faithful to its mission of Sharing Jesus, Shaping Lives, and Developing Leaders—generation after generation.
