Faith Life

"Nothing makes me happier than to hear that my children are living according to the truth." - 3 John 1:4

Our Christian beliefs and principles permeate everything we do at Mount Calvary - from our required Scripture courses and chapel services to our mainstream curriculum and co-curricular programs. Our staff will seek opportunities to share the presence and power of Jesus Christ at work in our daily lives as Christians.

The staff continually strives to encourage and support Biblically based values, morals and ethics in all formal and informal contacts with students. MC students are encouraged to stand out and be different amongst their peers, not because of their appearance or possessions, but rather because of whom they represent as a chosen child of God. Emphasis is placed on appropriate, respectful and dignified relationships with other students as well as with faculty and staff.

The manner in which we conduct our day-to-day operations is reflective of our commitment to excellence in all facets of becoming a productive, Christ-centered person.

HOW WE SERVE

Chapelchapel outside

Students attend Chapel at Mount Calvary every Wednesday morning.  This is an assembly in the church where a message from the bible is shared in an uplifting, Spirit-led service.  It is a devotional setting with both formal and informal worship. A variety of pastors, teachers, and students assist with leading chapels.  We cherish this time with the entire school where we can focus on His eternal and loving grace.  It is a joyous time on Wednesday mornings.

Sometimes we even have chapel outside!

Community Service

Each grade does a project where students go out into the community and show other people our love.  "Love God and Love Others" permeates everything we do and includes loving the community surrounding Mount Calvary.

OUR CHURCH

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church offers many programs for adults, youth, and children!  You are always invited to the 9AM worship service on Sunday mornings.  It is also available through live stream on the church website.

Rev. Dan Czaplewski is the head pastor and is very connected to the community.  You may always reach out to Pastor Dan if you need anything.  He says, "If you are struggling right now, I want you to know that there is hope for you in Jesus Christ. If you don't know what that means for you, I would love to have the opportunity to talk more."

Other programs available through the church include the Women's Missionary League, small groups, and MCCD.

Youth Ministry
Community Minister and Youth Director, Ben Piering, has many service activities and ministry events available for youth.  His youth ministry is for 6-12th graders.  He also hosts many summer programs and open gyms during the school year.  Click here to learn more about the youth ministry and see upcoming events.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • The canonical books of the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible is the true Word of God, without error or contradiction and is the final authority in all matters of faith and life. (John 20:31, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • The Confessional Writings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as contained in the Book of Concord are the true and genuine exposition of the Word of God.
  • There is only one true God, who reveals himself as Father (Creator), Son (Redeemer), and Holy Spirit (Sanctifier).  (Ephesians 4:4-6)
  • All people are conceived and born sinful. Because of their sin they are subject to eternal death. Man is incapable of saving himself through good works. (Ecclesiastes 7:20, Ephesians 2:1, 1 John 1:8)
  • Because of the unconditional love and mercy of God the Father, our salvation has been purchased through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. (John 3:16, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Colossians 1:13-14, Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • Faith in Jesus Christ comes by the power of the Holy Spirit as He works through the means of grace – His Word and the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper – through which the blessings and benefits of Jesus’ saving death and resurrection, namely the forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and salvation are offered to us. (Romans 10:17, Titus 3:5, Matthew 26:27-28)
  • Good works and holy Christian living are the fruit of faith in Christ, not the cause of faith or salvation. (John 15:5, Ephesians 2:8-10)
  • Christians are called to live for Jesus, compelling us to integrate our faith in all aspects of life. In service to our Lord, our primary mission is making disciples of every nation by bearing witness to Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:15, Matthew 28:19, 1 Timothy 2:4

Who I am –

I am the sole pastor of Mount Calvary, and I’ve been here since 2013. I’m also known as “Pastor Dan” or “Pastor C.” I graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1990, and I’ve served congregations and schools in Florida, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

I’m Sarah’s husband and the father of Seth and Luke. I grew up in Milwaukee, so it is good to be back home. Sarah grew up in Minnesota but hates the cold. I don’t love winter, but it is better than a hurricane (Florida) or an earthquake (Oregon).

What I do here –

I do the “pastoral duties” of caring for the sick, leading worship, visiting members, outreach, and parish administration. I preach almost every Sunday and teach Bible classes. You know, the “pastor stuff.”

I’m involved in our community as a volunteer chaplain with the Milwaukee Police Department. I work with our Mount Calvary Community Development Corporation on our urban farm in Milwaukee. I’m always looking for ways Mount Calvary can bless our community and open a door for the Gospel.

My favorite Bible verse –

John 15:1-17

I love to garden, which makes this a natural for me. More importantly, when Jesus talks about remaining (abiding) in Him, it is a source of great peace for me. God isn’t so concerned with my “performance” as He is with an organic connection to Christ.

Who I am –

I grew up primarily in South Florida. I graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic College and have taken the Lay Ministry Courses at Concordia. Over my 25 plus years of ministry, I served in Miami, Florida and Fort Wayne, Indiana as a Director of Christian Education.

I am blessed to be married to Teresa Piering who is a Lutheran School teacher and we have a son named Dylan.

What I do here –

I’ve been at Mount Calvary since 2015. I work to give hope and build up the Neighborhood we serve. You usually can find me walking around in the community, working with families and Youth, or offering safe ministry programming at the church. I work to give Christ’s hope and build up the neighborhood we serve.

My favorite Bible verse –

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of that which we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1.

God has used hard times over the years to grow my faith. I am thankful for the dear friends and family who have shaped me into the person I am today by sharing their faith and God’s love with me.
