"Nothing makes me happier than to hear that my children are living according to the truth." - 3 John 1:4
Our Christian beliefs and principles permeate everything we do at Mount Calvary - from our required Scripture courses and chapel services to our mainstream curriculum and co-curricular programs. Our staff will seek opportunities to share the presence and power of Jesus Christ at work in our daily lives as Christians.
The staff continually strives to encourage and support Biblically based values, morals and ethics in all formal and informal contacts with students. MC students are encouraged to stand out and be different amongst their peers, not because of their appearance or possessions, but rather because of whom they represent as a chosen child of God. Emphasis is placed on appropriate, respectful and dignified relationships with other students as well as with faculty and staff.
The manner in which we conduct our day-to-day operations is reflective of our commitment to excellence in all facets of becoming a productive, Christ-centered person.
Students attend Chapel at Mount Calvary every Wednesday morning. This is an assembly in the church where a message from the bible is shared in an uplifting, Spirit-led service. It is a devotional setting with both formal and informal worship. A variety of pastors, teachers, and students assist with leading chapels. We cherish this time with the entire school where we can focus on His eternal and loving grace. It is a joyous time on Wednesday mornings.
Sometimes we even have chapel outside!
Each grade does a project where students go out into the community and show other people our love. "Love God and Love Others" permeates everything we do and includes loving the community surrounding Mount Calvary.
At Mount Calvary, the following core values are the behaviors that drive our school culture.
Biblical Truth:
We believe in the inerrancy of the Scripture and the literal interpretation of God's Word as it applies to our lives in service to others.
Relationships:
Our commitment to others is marked by care, dignity, humility, integrity, and the application of Grace as we build meaningful life-long connections with one another.
Communication:
We aspire for integrations which are honest, respectful, clear, consistent, and timely, where expectations and accountability are embraced.
Growth:
An attitude of continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence allows each individual to maximize opportunities that use God-given talents for the benefit of others.
Love:
We strive to emulate Jesus' love for others in all situations, evidenced by unconditional care, compassion, joy, and passion.
I am the sole pastor of Mount Calvary, and I’ve been here since 2013. I’m also known as “Pastor Dan” or “Pastor C.” I graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1990, and I’ve served congregations and schools in Florida, Oregon, and Wisconsin.
I’m Sarah’s husband and the father of Seth and Luke. I grew up in Milwaukee, so it is good to be back home. Sarah grew up in Minnesota but hates the cold. I don’t love winter, but it is better than a hurricane (Florida) or an earthquake (Oregon).
I do the “pastoral duties” of caring for the sick, leading worship, visiting members, outreach, and parish administration. I preach almost every Sunday and teach Bible classes. You know, the “pastor stuff.”
I’m involved in our community as a volunteer chaplain with the Milwaukee Police Department. I work with our Mount Calvary Community Development Corporation on our urban farm in Milwaukee. I’m always looking for ways Mount Calvary can bless our community and open a door for the Gospel.
John 15:1-17
I love to garden, which makes this a natural for me. More importantly, when Jesus talks about remaining (abiding) in Him, it is a source of great peace for me. God isn’t so concerned with my “performance” as He is with an organic connection to Christ.
I grew up primarily in South Florida. I graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic College and have taken the Lay Ministry Courses at Concordia. Over my 25 plus years of ministry, I served in Miami, Florida and Fort Wayne, Indiana as a Director of Christian Education.
I am blessed to be married to Teresa Piering who is a Lutheran School teacher and we have a son named Dylan.
I’ve been at Mount Calvary since 2015. I work to give hope and build up the Neighborhood we serve. You usually can find me walking around in the community, working with families and Youth, or offering safe ministry programming at the church. I work to give Christ’s hope and build up the neighborhood we serve.
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of that which we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1.
God has used hard times over the years to grow my faith. I am thankful for the dear friends and family who have shaped me into the person I am today by sharing their faith and God’s love with me.
