Mount Calvary Lutheran School serves pre-kindergarten 4 year olds (4K) through eighth grade.  For over 95 years since the school's founding, it has provided a quality Christian education for the Sherman Park community and beyond.  Our passion is to teach God's children through His Word to be Christ-like witnesses and productive members of society.  With our dedicated teachers and community of parents, Mount Calvary reinforces the value of the church, home, and community.  We provide your child with the influences and opportunities that equip your child for high school and beyond.

Mount Calvary sets high academic and behavioral expectations for students in a Christ-centered environment.  Certified teachers use their gifts to help each child realize his or her God-given potential. The school is nationally accredited and participates in Milwaukee's Parental Choice Program. We have a rigorous and well-rounded academic program that includes music and the arts. Extra-curricular activities are available after school and we offer supervised before and after school care.

A Letter from Principal, Mrs. Trenae Howard:

Picking a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make, and I want to thank you for taking a look at Mount Calvary.  You have a lot of choices when it comes to great elementary schools, and we strive to ensure that we are indeed a great school.

At Mount Calvary, we want your child to meet the high standards that you set for them in all areas of life.  We, of course, have a strong focus on reading, math, and our other core academic subjects.  We also offer opportunities for our students to practice art, singing, and band.  There is a strong emphasis on character development because we want to equip all of our students with the tools to be good, honest, and successful people.  While these aspects of our school are all important, we are the most passionate about teaching our students that there is a God that loves them dearly.

Mount Calvary is a Lutheran school, and we approach everything we do from our distinctly Lutheran perspective.  This foundation runs through all of our subjects, activities, and policies.  We believe that Jesus makes all the difference in educating our kids.  It is a blessing to be able to share the saving message of the Gospel with our students, their families, and our community every day.

Thank you for visiting our website, and don’t hesitate to call us with any questions you have about our great school!

Principal, Dr. Trenae Howard

"At Mount Calvary, we have created a place where students, staff, and families respect one another. Our students focus on being the best in school and in our community."

Mount Calvary Lutheran School started as the flagship ministry of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. The Church and School shared space in the home that the congregation built in 1925. The school started with 9 students in a duplex on 53rd and Locust. In 1927, its first school building with two classrooms was built as an addition to the church. Increasing enrollment between 1948-2007 prompted multiple building expansions for a library, gym, kitchen, computer room, science lab, and additional classrooms.

In July 2021, Mount Calvary Lutheran School became the fourth school of the Lutheran High School Association of Greater Milwaukee.  Pastor Dan Czaplewski of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church wrote to the congregation and staff, “As we looked for ways to better serve our students and to provide more resources for our teachers in their ministry, it became clear that the best way to do this was to have Mount Calvary Lutheran School become a part of the LHSAGM.”

Mount Calvary Lutheran School now has the full support of LHSAGM administrative services such as finance and marketing while maintaining its own school culture and personality. Mount Calvary Lutheran Church remains independent and continues to support the school ministry through spiritual leadership and facilities management.  Today, Mount Calvary is blessed to serve over 200 students and their families.  Mount Calvary is proud to be a school!
